Despite knowing that control is an illusion, it’s still one of the hardest things to stop reaching for. We make five-year plans, overanalyze our choices, write long manifestation lists, micromanage our work and our families — and spend so much energy worrying about whether things will unfold the way we hoped. But the truth is, most of life’s most magical moments can’t be planned, they happen by way of synchronicity. It makes you wonder: Are we making life happen, or is life happening to us? Maybe it’s a confluence of the two.
Though we may not be able to control the future — what if we could take a peek around the corner? Would it give us peace or anxiety? Would it take away the surprise and delight of life? Would it help us redirect when we’re off track — or short-circuit our growth? Does knowing what’s next really serve us, or is it better to let life be our teacher?
“Though we may not be able to control the future — what if we could take a peek around the corner?”
I’ve always been a seeker, curious about the connection between the material and spiritual worlds, and my purpose within them. I was raised in a religious family where I learned that there was a loving higher power guiding my experience — and that if I could learn to “let go and let God,” the best possible scenario would unfold for my highest good. And although that’s always felt true to me, my curiosity has led me to explore alternative modalities and ways of understanding the metaphysical world.
Which brings me to my fascination with psychics.
What exactly is a psychic — and what do they do?
We’ve all seen those storefronts in strip malls with neon lights and crystal balls — and whether or not you believe psychics are real, it’s hard not to wonder what they’d say to you. So, in the name of research, I set off on a quest to understand what psychics actually do — and, better yet, to see if meeting five of them in one week would reveal the same truths.
First, let’s talk about what qualifies as psychic — because honestly, a lot of people who fall under that category don’t even use the word. You’ll see titles like “intuitive,” “spiritual guide,” or “energy reader” instead. At its core, though, a psychic is someone who taps into information beyond the five senses — things like perceiving the past or future, picking up on thoughts or emotions, or connecting with spiritual energy around you, like your angels, ancestors, and spirit guides.
“At its core, though, a psychic is someone who taps into information beyond the five senses.”
The five women I spoke with all had their own unique approaches. Some pulled tarot cards and used the imagery to shape our conversation. Others slipped into meditation and then just started “channeling.” One even had me stare at her third eye (yes, the spot between the eyebrows) while she focused on an object across the room, and before I knew it, she was naming and describing people in my life — as if she was right there with them. But everyone had one thing in common — they were uplifting and dedicated to helping their clients become the best versions of themselves. There was no fear-mongering or doom and gloom. Booking with psychics who had positive energy was #1 on my list.
How I framed my experience:
Before I dive into what happened in my readings, I want to share the spiritual principles and approach that kept me grounded throughout the experience. Because let’s be honest — seeing a psychic can feel a little scary. There’s always that tiny voice that wonders: What if they tell me something bad?
My anchor: Every choice I make shapes the direction of my life. Whatever the psychics see is simply a reflection of my life choices and mindset up until the reading. In other words, nothing is set in stone. Every new thought and decision adjusts my sails, and even the tiniest turn can take me to a completely different destination. If I hear something that doesn’t sit well with me, I defer to my intuition. Take what resonates and leave the rest.
“Whatever the psychics see is simply a reflection of my life choices and mindset up until the reading. In other words, nothing is set in stone.”
My approach: Instead of going in with specific questions, I asked for the weather report. I was open to whatever came forward and curious to see what the psychics would come up with — unprompted and uninfluenced by me.
I also have mixed feelings about asking for specifics about other people. It can get in the way of real connection, turning curiosity into projection — like those people who run every date by a psychic instead of exploring the connection themselves. For me, if details about others came up, I was open, but I didn’t go into any reading asking about anyone specific.
Remember that psychics — or any modality or guide — can be a tool or a crutch. They can be a mirror for self-reflection, action, and transformation, or a way to outsource your power to someone else and ignore your intuition. It’s important to check in with yourself throughout the process to keep the experience from becoming harmful to your state of mind.
What came forward in my readings was affirmative, positive, and consistent. It was like each psychic saw me from a different angle that felt true to who I was, how I feel, and where I’m heading. There were four similar themes:
- Positive growth in my career as a writer, teacher, and speaker
- “Right-ness” around my current romantic relationship
- Getting married in the next 2 years 👀
- Needing to focus on self-care and not rush the process
I’m sharing some of the logistics for each psychic, along with a cost indicator, so you can get an idea of how the practical experience went, as well as the reading itself. Since there are sliding scales and various add-ons associated with the final price points, I’m using the following key for each psychic’s services:
Over $500: $$$
Between $100-$500: $$
Under $100: $
So, without further ado, here’s a deep dive into all five of my sessions… and spoiler alert: The psychics mostly agreed!
Psychic #1: Wendy of Pure Heart Sessions, $$$
How she describes herself: Ball of Light, Angel Oracle, God’s Helper, Perceiver, Soul Hacker, Clear Channel, Seer, Medium, Teacher, Kundalini Awakened Intuit, Artist, Author
How I heard of her: I first heard of Wendy on the “Otherworld” podcast, which explores her deep and sudden spiritual awakening that turned on her psychic and mediumship abilities — it’s a fascinating listen! As fate would have it, I put myself on Wendy’s waitlist over a year ago and got the text that I was off the list and on her schedule smack in the middle of this experiment.
How our session was facilitated: Wendy is Los Angeles–based, so I was able to meet with her in person. When I arrived, I was instructed to wait in a little room full of angel art, turn my phone on airplane mode, and meditate while I waited for her. We sat together, surrounded by pink furry pillows, took three deep breaths, and then she told me to focus on her third eye while she focused on another object in the room and dropped into a focused trance.
What she said: Wendy was able to produce names and details that were so accurate, my boyfriend was convinced she was wearing a wire. She started off the session by asking me who “Jason” was — a little spooky, since I had been talking to my best friend on the phone on the way to the session — and her fiancé’s name is Jason. She gave some messages from “the light” to share with him, and he was shocked at the accuracy when I sent him the recording.
After that, she asked me if I was a writer — she didn’t know I was writing this piece — and said she saw me writing a book, hosting live events, and helping people “feel their frequency” so that they can connect with what they want.
Next came my relationship, where she named specifics about my boyfriend, including his age, career path, future successes, fears, details about his family, and our path together. Wendy also emphasized that she saw me getting married in the next 2 years.
Takeaways: When the session was over, I felt lifted, excited, and at peace. Beyond the details of what she said, I had a calm knowing that I didn’t have to stress or worry — things were working out exactly as they were meant to. This reading really showed me that when you decide to focus on the good, the good expands.

Psychic #2: Nikki Novo, $$$
How she describes herself: Master Intuitive, Spiritual Guide
How I heard of her: Nikki came highly recommended by a friend who said she had predicted everything accurately in her life over the past year. Beyond readings, Nikki has a course on how to connect with your intuition, and is the author of “Soul-Led Living.”
How our session was facilitated: Our session took place on Zoom, with cameras off so Nikki could focus on channeling. She began with a meditation to connect with my energy and chakra system. I stayed quiet for most of the session while she provided what she calls a “Soul Reading.”
What she said: Nikki shared that my soul is entering a phase of expansion, and the key question for my next steps is: What would my most courageous self do? This season is about embracing fun, creativity, and moving beyond a serious period of healing. She told me my purpose changes with life’s seasons, and that my true gift isn’t in what I do, but in sharing my frequency and voice.
When it came to relationships, the focus wasn’t on “who” — but on me being fully myself, which attracts the right partnerships. She also mentioned that I would really enjoy getting married, having a family, and settling down soon — and that I was a lot more “conventional” than I thought. Ha!
Takeaways: This reading was a real energy reset — a moment to come home to my soul’s truth. It reminded me that when we live in integrity, the details take care of themselves. Maybe if we stopped focusing so much on where we’re going and instead focused on being the boldest version of our truth right now, we’d naturally attract the things that are most suited for our unique nature and desires.

Psychic #3: Sarah’s Oracle, $
How she describes herself: Intuitive, Tarot Reader
How I heard of her: Sarah has a big following on TikTok where she pulls tarot cards, shares numerology, intuitive downloads, and even sings beautiful words of affirmation. But I actually didn’t even know she created content until after our session, and just booked off a recommendation from a friend.
How our session was facilitated: Sarah pulled some tarot cards before we met, and used them to guide our conversation on Zoom, with our cameras on. She asked me questions about the messages that were coming up in the cards, and I gave context about how they resonated with me.
What she said: Just five minutes before our reading, I’d been rehashing some old drama with a friend who was staying with me. So when Sarah opened with, “Is there something from the past that’s been top of mind?” it felt like she was reading the energy straight out of the room. From there, the cards revealed themes of expansion — my writing and voice, right timing in love, prioritizing balance, and even the possibility of a move or marriage within the next two years. She ended by reminding me I’m right on track, and there’s no need to rush the process.
Takeaways: Everything she shared fit so clearly into my life and echoed the themes from my earlier sessions, but it also made me think about how much interpretation shapes a reading — and whether that even matters. One card can mean so many things, yet the version that lands always feels like the truth coming through. Good food for thought.

Psychic #4: Krystina Morgainne, $
How she describes herself: Mystic, Spiritual Mentor, Reader, Shaman, Reiki Master, Radical Forgiveness Practitioner, Sound Bath and Vibrational Balancing Facilitator, Divine Feminine Connector
How I heard of her: I connected with Krystina via the To Be Magnetic community — and years ago even hired her for a birthday party, where she predicted my friend and his boyfriend would break up in the next 30 days, and they did. However, she didn’t remember me, so rest assured, the reading wasn’t skewed.
How our session was facilitated: I talked to Krystina on the phone, and she worked with a mix of tarot cards, numerology, and soul levels.
What she said: Her reading started out with a question: “You know you’re psychic too, right?” She told me I was entering a powerful period of transformation and over the next 30 days, I’m being guided to trust my intuition, focus on being present to get information and downloads, and soon have prophetic dreams!
She described my relationship as deeply karmic but evolving into a higher level of maturity and balance. Both of us are clearing old patterns and allowing love and long-term stability to emerge. She said 2026 is all about preparing for my next chapter, and 2027 is about marriage, family, and new beginnings. She ended with my soul age — I’m an old soul who is cleaning up my last bits of karma, and after that process is complete, I’m moving into being a teacher.
Takeaways: I have to say, I loved Krystina’s reading the most. It came with a level of clarity and certainty that left me feeling empowered, seen, and right on time. Now, after 4 readings, I really felt confident in my path. Like I could drop the narrative that “I need to be doing more” and lean back into trust that I’m doing enough.

Psychic #5: Nora Hooper, $$
How she describes herself: Intuitive Reader, Spiritual Advisor, Guide
How I heard of her: She came highly recommended by two friends — and they warned me that she gives it to you straight!
How our session was facilitated: We Facetimed, said a little prayer to open the container, and then Nora started talking without any aid, telling me about my life, my energy, next steps, and relationships.
What she said: Nora opened the session by saying I had a grandmother watching over me — and I immediately thought of Dee, my grandmother, who I was really close to and who has passed. Then she said she saw me doing cartwheels and stressed how important it is for me to keep moving and stay in dance class, which hit me, because I’ve been a dancer my whole life. She also shared that I’m meant to be an educator, and reminded me to delegate and focus on my self-care. Finally, we dove into some details about my relationship, which she saw as supportive and even saw potential for professional collaboration.
Takeaways: After four sessions, I was already feeling so good that I almost skipped the fifth… part of me didn’t want to rock the boat after all the good news. But Nora’s session was sweet, affirming, and grounding. She ended the weather report on a great note, with a forecast (in her words!) of “clear skies ahead.” 🌌

Looking back on these five sessions, I still don’t feel like I “know” the future — but I do feel like I can trust that I’m moving in a direction that will make me happy. The overarching theme across all the readings was simple and clear: It’s all good. And instead of looking for drama, I’m asking myself: Will I let it all be good?
“The overarching theme across all the readings was simple and clear: It’s all good.”
I don’t know that I’ll hold on to any of the predictions too tightly — but I will be interested to come back and read this piece in two years to see if I, in fact, got married. Ha! Beyond anything that was said, it’s how I felt after the sessions that left the biggest impact: Uplifted, calm, and clear.
Control may be an illusion, but joy doesn’t have to be.
